Letter from the Pastor
Hello, and welcome to the Oakbrook Church website! I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about Oakbrook Church and describe what God is doing in and through this amazing community of believers.
Oakbrook Church is a non-denominational, Holy Spirit-empowered church located in Reston, Virginia. We are a fellowship of committed believers in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that serves the communities of northwestern Fairfax County and eastern Loudoun County including the towns of Reston, Herndon, Vienna, Great Falls, Chantilly, Oakton, Sterling, and Ashburn.
At Oakbrook, we believe that God is worthy of and deserves our highest praise and worship. Accordingly, we place great emphasis on offering people the opportunity to worship God in a joyful, vibrant, spirited, and Christ-centered environment. We are not interested in giving performances or observing religious traditions, but rather drawing people into a genuine spirit of worship and helping them to connect with and experience God personally.
At Oakbrook, we promote and encourage relationships as opposed to religion – both a personal relationship with God and relationships with other people. We believe that an individual’s personal relationship with God is the most important relationship that he or she can have. Thus, we actively encourage our people to build this relationship through prayer and the study of His word while personally experiencing His presence and power during worship and through serving. We also offer people multiple opportunities to build relationships with other believers through various ministries like our Men’s and Women’s Ministries, MOVEMENT (our youth ministry), CONNECTED (our Young Adults’ Ministry), through Home Group fellowships and weekly prayer meetings, and through a myriad of local, national, and international ministry outreach opportunities.
At Oakbrook, we emphasize training and equipping the people of God to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ into our community, the United States, and throughout the world. We believe that we are not only to be “hearers of the word,” but also “doers of the word,” and thus we teach the word of God with a mind towards mobilizing the church for action. We also give people practical, “hands-on” ministry opportunities in order to gain experience in sharing the gospel, teaching the Scriptures, and caring for the poor, sick, and needy through frequent evangelism outreaches and local and international mission trips.
Lastly, at Oakbrook, we work together to identify each of our God-given spiritual gifts, talents, and passions and find our places of service and ministry in the kingdom of God. We believe that every Christian has an important role to play in the expansion of the kingdom on the earth, both within the church body and among unbelievers out in the world.
We extend to you today a personal invitation to come, see, and experience what God is doing in and through the people of Oakbrook Church. We are a community experiencing Christ, and we would love for you to join us!
Sincerely,
John Moyle
Senior Pastor
